APM receives $10 million gift

Minnesota Public Radio and parent company American Public Media announced Wednesday it has received a $10 million donation, an amount company leaders say is one of the largest any public radio station has received.

The donor, who asked to remain anonymous, is a longtime supporter of the company who is passionate about classical music and music education, MPR president and CEO Jon McTaggart told staff Wednesday.

The gift was given without restrictions. The company said the money will go toward funding technology to enable digital growth and audience integration, as well as classical music programming, music in schools and marketing.

"We're deeply grateful for every member and donor who shares our passion for public service and our dreams for the future," McTaggart said. "This is a very special donor who's making a transformative investment to help make those dreams a reality."

Correction (Nov. 11, 2015): An earlier version of this story was unclear on the nature of the donor's gift. It was given to MPR without restrictions, and the company will determine how it's used.
