Two Lakeville high school students were killed and two injured in a one vehicle rollover crash Friday.
The Dakota County Sheriff's office responded to a report of an accident at around 3 p. m. on 225th Street, just west of Dodd Road.
Lakeville Area Public Schools confirmed that all four involved in the wreck were Lakeville South High School students.
Deputies found two teens, apparently thrown from the truck, dead in the roadway. Another suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. A fourth student was able to walk and talk but was taken by ambulance to HCMC, the sheriff's department said. All the victims were male.
The school district kept Lakeville South open until 9 p.m. to offer a place to grieve for families and students. According to a statement on the district's website, it planned to offer counseling for as long as needed.
All Lakeville South activities have been called off for the weekend. The district said Lakeville North activities on Saturday will go ahead "but students who do not feel able to take part will be excused from those activities.
"This is an extremely difficult time for our students, our families, our staff and our community," the statement continued. "Hundreds of students from both North and South high schools and their families have gathered to grieve. We may have two high schools, but we are one Lakeville."
