A University of Minnesota police officer suffered minor injuries after a suspected drunken driver rear-ended his squad car early Saturday.

Officer Geoff Maciejewski said he pulled over a woman for speeding on Highway 280 and had just walked over to her vehicle when another car smashed into the back of his cruiser at high speed.

Maciejewski said he remembers headlights moving toward him quickly before he either fell or was knocked to the ground. He says he's a bit sore, but did not suffer any major injuries.

"I have no idea how I wasn't hurt more. I'm very fortunate to be here talking to you right now," he said.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the suspected drunk driver is a 34-year old Wisconsin man who was allegedly driving with a suspended license. He remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
