Mpls. police investigating 3rd robbery near U in 3 weeks

Police in Minneapolis are investigating another robbery near the University of Minnesota — the third armed holdup of a U student in as many weeks.

The Minneapolis Police Department said the latest incident happened early Friday in Dinkytown, about a block west of the university's athletic complex.

Authorities said three suspects assaulted the victim, pointed a gun at him and took his wallet, phone and backpack.

University of Minnesota Police Chief Matt Clark said the robbery followed a Nov. 21 daytime armed robbery at the Carlson School of Management and a Nov. 25 assault and robbery on the 10th Avenue Bridge.

"We don't believe they're related. We're working closely with MPD on both of those cases and their robbery unit is looking for information on those," Clark said.

Clark said the campus and surrounding area are safe, but cautions students not to walk alone — especially after dark.
