Two more people have been hit by Metro Transit light rail trains.

The latest accidents happened Monday morning near 50th Street and 46th Street in Minneapolis, the same area where a bicyclist was struck and killed Friday.

Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla said neither incident appeared to be fatal, although both interrupted train service.

The newest incidents come less than a week after a 67-year-old woman was killed in a crosswalk in front of a Green Line train on University Avenue in St. Paul.

Another person was struck and critically injured at Snelling and University on Dec. 4.

In a statement, Metropolitan Council chairman Adam Duininck said he's "deeply concerned" about the recent accidents and that he asked Metro Transit for a review of its safety procedures and equipment on light rail lines.

That review is already underway, the statement said.

"Safety is a shared responsibility," he said. "I will make sure that we are taking every feasible action we can to make our services as safe as possible and to educate the public about how to stay safe around trains."
