Pedestrian killed by train in Coon Rapids

A pedestrian was killed by a train Sunday afternoon in Coon Rapids.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway spokesperson said in an emailed statement that the pedestrian was walking on the railroad tracks at about noon when they were struck by an eastbound train.

The spokeperson said the train was on the tracks and not at a street crossing, and that people should only cross tracks at designated street and pedestrian crossings.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office and BNSF personnel responded to the scene.
