Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder said David was in a crosswalk at 8th Street and Hennepin Avenue at about 5 p.m. when she was hit.

"The pedestrian was alive upon officers' arrival. They found that she was in very serious condition," Elder said. "She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she subsequently died."

Elder said the pickup truck's driver stopped after hitting the woman and is cooperating with the investigation.

Minneapolis police officers responded to about two dozen weather-related crashes throughout the day, including a squad car that was hit.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported almost 400 crashes across the state over the course of the day.
