St. Paul cop returns to work after allegedly lying to grand jury

A St. Paul police investigator returned to work Wednesday, a week after a federal court said she lied to a grand jury.

The department put sex crimes investigator Sgt. Heather Weyker on paid administrative leave March 3 after an appeals court upheld the acquittals of three Twin Cities men in a major sex trafficking case. The men were among 30 people charged with taking girls from Minnesota to Tennessee for prostitution.

St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders says Weyker is now working in the research and development unit, not as a sex crimes investigator.

He says an internal affairs investigation is on hold pending more information from federal officials.

The judges said Weyker "likely exaggerated or fabricated" testimony from a purported victim, lied to a grand jury, and lied in a detention hearing.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors dropped charges against more than a dozen remaining defendants in the case.
