The Minnesota DNR is expanding campsite reservations at state parks.
Starting in May all state park campsites can be reserved. The agency is also adding same-day campsite reservations.
"With the same day reservation convenience, you'll be able to get up in the morning and decide well, which park do I want to go to today?" said Phil Leversedge, parks and trails deputy director. "If there's a site that's available, before you finish your cup of coffee you'll be able to reserve that site and know that it's there."
Leversedge says campers like the option of a guaranteed campsite.
"We're not alone doing this," he said. "A bunch of states across the country are moving this way."
About one-third of state park campsites used to be kept out of the reservation system so that they could be rented by walk-up visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
