Minneapolis cops shoot, kill man with weapon

Minneapolis police say they shot and killed a man early Monday morning while the man was stabbing another person.

Officers were called at 5:13 a.m to the 2100 block of Minnehaha Avenue South after a 911 caller reported a "combative adult male armed with a weapon," the police said in a statement.

According to preliminary witness accounts, the officers found the suspect, who ran into a nearby apartment.

"Officers attempted to speak with the suspect, and after hearing cries for help, forcefully entered the unit and witnessed the suspect stabbing an adult male victim," the department said.

Police opened fire and shot the suspect. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died. The stabbing victim was also transported but his condition wasn't immediately known. A Minneapolis officer was also being treated for a broken bone.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
