KARE 11 anchor Diana Pierce is retiring after nearly 33 years on the air, the station announced Wednesday.

Pierce started as a news anchor at what was then WTCN in 1983. She anchored the news with Paul Magers for 20 years, a time when the station's newscasts saw ratings growth in the Twin Cities market.

She currently anchors KARE 11 News at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"Diana has had an outstanding career at KARE and we are all looking forward to celebrating with her," said news director Jane Helmke in a statement. "We know she will be a tremendous success in whatever she chooses next."

The station said Pierce will graduate from Augsburg College this month with a Master of Arts in Leadership degree. Her LinkedIn account says she can offer organizational leadership and on-air coaching for employees.

Pierce was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2009.

Her last day will be Friday, April 22, according to a statement from the station.
