St. Paul police have identified the man who was fatally shot Sunday evening at Indian Mounds Regional Park as 18-year-old Bobby Davion Collins of St. Paul.
St. Paul police say more resources will be dedicating to combating gun violence after nine people were shot in the city during a four-day span, including two fatally.
Police confirmed the identity of another man killed, Charles Anthony Hudson, 31, of South St. Paul. He was found in the 400 block of Magnolia Avenue on Monday.
Police spokesman Steve Linders says the department is increasing patrols in areas where shootings have happened more frequently. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Linders says the department is also creating a response team to more intensely investigate every report of gunfire, even if no one was injured.
Authorities have arrested two people, including a 24-year-old man from Minneapolis, in connection with Collins' shooting death at Indian Mounds park.
St. Paul police arrived to find several hundred people at the East Side park. They found Collins suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police say a second victim hit by gunfire was treated at Regions Hospital and released.
In his state of the city speech on Tuesday, Mayor Chris Coleman said he will "stand together" with community leaders and police to try to deal with what he called an "explosion" of gun violence.
"The perpetrators of this violence will be heading to prison," Coleman said. "Too many lives lost. Too many parents grieving. Too many families shattered. We have to double our efforts to stem this increase in violence."
On Monday, two people were shot and wounded in a shooting in the Summit-University neighborhood.
Authorities say they responded to a 1:30 p.m. call that shots were fired near Central Avenue and St. Albans Street.
Linders said one victim was shot in the side, the other in the leg. They were taken to Regions Hospital.
