Cool and soggy; warmer tomorrow

It was a wet night, and periods of rain will continue today.  We could also see a few wet snowflakes mixed with the rain today in central Minnesota and the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities.

Measurable snow is not expected, but it can happen in late April. The latest measurable snow in Twin Cities history was on May 24, 1925, when one-tenth of an inch was recorded.

Highs today will be chilly:

Much of Minnesota will see highs in the 40s.

That is way too cool for many of us. Our average high temperature this time of year is 64 degrees in the Twin Cities.

Cool tonight, warmer with some sun tomorrow

A high-pressure system expands briefly into Minnesota on Friday, and we'll see some sunshine at times:

Friday morning lows will be in the 30s over much of Minnesota:

Keep in mind that the official temperature is measured 2 meters (about 6.56 feet) above the ground. When winds are very light, you can have frost at ground level with an official temperature in the mid or upper 30s.

It is good to cover plants or bring potted plants indoors whenever the projected low is 40 degrees or lower, especially if you are in a low spot.

Back to the 60s

Highs in the upper 50s will be common across Minnesota on Friday and Saturday, with a few spots touching 60. Many spots will see highs in the 60s on Sunday and Monday.

In the Twin Cities, we could see scattered showers on Saturday:

Southern Minnesota counties will have the best chance of Saturday showers.

I hope that you have a good Thursday!
