Appetites: The Water Bar

Sample flight from the Water Bar
The Water Bar provides sample "flights," for tasting. This one included tap water from Minneapolis, St. Paul, and well water from the former Schmidt's brewery site in St. Paul.

Today on Appetites, we tip back a few glasses of ... water.

Northeast Minneapolis' Water Bar is really a bar, but the only thing poured there is tap water.

The reason for going is to learn about the importance and process behind getting clean tap water to your faucet, on demand. The bar also aims to point out the differences in tap water quality in different communities.

Water Bar began in 2014 as an art installation, but it has since traveled to different communities across the country for educational drinking water tastings.

Its cofounder Shanai Matteson joined MPR News host Tom Crann to talk about Water Bar, threats to clean water and how our drinking water in the Twin Cities stacks up to the rest of the country.
