One arrested in overnight demonstrations in St. Paul after vandalism

St. Paul police arrested one person during overnight demonstrations Thursday, where protesters expressed outrage over the police shooting death of Philando Castile.
Police say the protest outside Governor Mark Dayton's Summit Avenue residence was peaceful until some people broke away, made their way onto Grand Avenue and broke windows of an unoccupied police car as well as a Grand Avenue business.
"St. Paul officers responded to prevent further damage," the department said in a statement. "Chemical irritant and marking rounds were used to stop dangerous criminal activity. One arrest was made and the group dispersed."
Protesters continued to gather outside of the governor's mansion, but the crowd slowly diminished overnight down to 20 demonstrators early Friday morning.
Summit Avenue is still closed between Oxford and Chatsworth Streets. St. Paul police say they will maintain a presence in the area for safety purposes.
