Highs in the 80s through Tuesday, then hot

The strongest thunderstorms missed the Twin Cities Saturday night, so we saw metro rainfall amounts generally under one half of an inch. The heaviest rain in the metro area fell over southern portions of Scott and Dakota counties.

Much higher rainfall amounts were recorded over southern Minnesota, including 6.18 inches in Fairmont.

Here is a preliminary rainfall map, released by the National Weather Service:

Severe thunderstorms moved through parts of west-central and southwestern Minnesota Saturday evening, taking down some trees and power lines in Granite Falls and Montevideo. Winds also took the roofs off of a few buildings in Granite Falls. Here is a preliminary list of Minnesota storm reports from the Twin Cities NWS office:

Thunderstorm chance

Scattered showers and thunderstorms linger over parts of northeastern Minnesota this Sunday morning. The best chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon will be over southeastern Minnesota. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is also possible elsewhere in Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.

The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service indicates that the slight risk of severe weather is well to our southeast today and tonight; over parts of Iowa, Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin:

Thunderstorms aren't expected in Minnesota on Monday, and we'll have plenty of sunshine due to a nearby high pressure system:

rt717fronts

90s by Wednesday

We'll have highs in the 80s over southern and central Minnesota today, with 70s in the north:

rt717h4

Similar highs are on tap for Monday:

rt718h

On Wednesday, southern Minnesota will see highs in the lower 90s:

rt720h

The 90s expand into central Minnesota on Thursday, and parts of southern Minnesota could see upper 90s:

rt721h

Dew point temperatures in the 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, combined with highs in the 90s, will result in heat index values over 100 degrees over much of central and southern Minnesota.
