Downtown Mpls. shooting injures two

Two men were shot and wounded Saturday in downtown Minneapolis at about 3:15 a.m. on the 300 block of First Avenue North. An off-duty officer heard gunshots and officers responded within minutes.

Minneapolis police Sgt. Catherine Michal said they found two men with gunshot wounds to their legs.

"There was a large group of people standing around this particular establishment and for whatever reason, gunshots occurred and people took off running," she said.

Both men were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are looking for suspects in footage from cameras in the area.

Compared with 2015, non-fatal shootings are up this year in Minneapolis, though homicide numbers are down.
