The warden of the Stillwater prison has been placed on investigative leave for undisclosed reasons.
Steve Hammer has been warden at Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater, which has both medium and minimum security units, since March 2015. The Minnesota Department of Corrections said he's been on investigative leave since Monday.
The department didn't release any information on the nature of its investigation. Hammer is on pay status, the department said.
According to a Department of Corrections 2011 press release, Hammer began his department career as an information and technology specialist at the Shakopee women's prison in 1991. In 1997, he transferred to Red Wing, where he became associate warden of administration.
In 2010, he transferred to Stillwater, where he became associate warden of operations in 2011. Soon after, in December 2011, he was named warden of the Minnesota Correctional Facility, Rush City in 2011.
