Man shot, killed after standoff with police ID'd
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the man shot in a confrontation with police in Polk County Monday.
Clarence Duane Huderle, 73, of Warren, Minn., died of a gunshot wound after a standoff with police.
The incident started with a call to the Polk County Sheriff's Office from a rural mail carrier who heard two gunshots that caused the rear window of his vehicle to shatter.
A Polk County deputy responded and while investigating, was confronted by Huderle who was armed with a rifle, according to the BCA. The deputy called for backup and other officers responded.
Huderle fired at the deputy, striking the deputy's vehicle. He was later found dead outside his residence with a high-powered rifle nearby.
According to the BCA, one law enforcement officer fired his weapon. The BCA isn't identifying him citing state law that protects the identity of undercover officers. The officer is a member of the Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force.
