3-year-old boy dies after hit by car in Minneapolis

A 3-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car while crossing a street in Minneapolis.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Police say Hamza Mohoumed Abdillahi was being dropped off at the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South.

Sgt. Catherine Michael is a spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department. She said the van was parked next to the curb facing northbound on 17th Avenue South.

"The victim got out of the van, walked behind the vehicle and then proceeded to walk into the street. A Chrysler sedan traveling northbound on 17th Avenue South struck the victim in the street," said Michal.

Paramedics treated Abdillahi at the scene and transported him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the car stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
