Cooler weather begins today

The Twin Cities experienced high temperatures of 90 degrees each day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That is about 15 degrees warmer than normal for early June.

Cooler air has settled in for the beginning of the work week. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday should range mainly from the upper 70s to the mid 80s except near Lake Superior where cooler temperatures will prevail. The Twin Cities should have high temperatures near 80 both days.

Clouds

Some temporary cloudiness is likely in parts of eastern Minnesota today. A large blob of low clouds from the Lake Superior area is flowing southwestward toward the Twin Cities. They will approach the metro area this morning, then graduallly lift and dissipate in response to daytime heating.

Chances of rain

A few thunderstorms might break out in the northwestern corner of Minnesota Tuesday evening as a weak cold front heads our way from the Dakotas. That front will drag itself slowly eastward across the state and trigger widely scattered showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. Most of us are likely to get little or no precipitation.

The best chance of picking up one-quarter to one-half inch of rain this week might be along the western edge of the state or in the Arrowhead. But be sure to pack an umbrella if you head for Florida.
