Dry weather again today

Today will be just about a replay of yesterday's lovely weather. Expect sunny skies, warm-but-not-too-hot temperatures and low humidities. Afternoon high temperatures should be mostly in the upper 70s to mid 80s except cooler near Lake Superior. The Twin Cities should warm to about 82 on a day when the normal high is 76.

We could use some rain

Recent rainfall has been quite scarce. While there have been some days like last Friday with scattered thunderstorms, we have not had a widespread rain event in more than two weeks. The lush green color of spring has faded to tan on many lawns. Gardens have required frequent watering, especially on these days with bright sun and low humidity when the soil dries quickly.

A weak weather system is plodding across the Dakotas toward Minnesota. Some showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to rev up over the next few days, but they are likely to be very scattered. Many of us might get no rain at all.

The first showers and storms should build into the northwestern corner of Minnesota this evening or tonight. Meanwhile, Forida will continue to get soaked.

This frontal system will weaken as it crosses Minnesota. Wednesday should see widely scattered showers and thunderstorms but no severe weather.

Here is how the weather should play out through tomorrow for the Duluth area and northeastern Minnesota.

The chance of a few showers or storms will linger on Thursday, mainly in eastern Minnesota.

Toasty and steamy next weekend

The upcoming weekend could become interesting. Forecast models make it likely that hot and humid weather is just about a sure thing for both Saturday and Sunday. The Twin Cities area is likely to see temperatures touching the low 90s again along with dew points well into the 60s.

An advancing cold front might be the trigger for strong to severe storms, especially Sunday afternoon across northern Minnesota and then into southern Canada.
