Art Hounds recommend music by Manchita and Rachael Kilgour, and a show of abstract paintings by Sheila Wagner.
Artist Angela Spencer has enjoyed following rapper Manchita's work ever since she was in GRRRL PRTY with Lizzo and Sophia Eris. Spencer thinks this Friday might be Manchita's big breakout moment when she celebrates the release of her first solo EP. Spencer is a big fan of Manchita's low, throaty and quick rap style, but is looking forward to hearing what new vocal skills she brings to the mix on this latest project. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Grant writer Zoe Malinchoc discovered Rachael Kilgour's music two years ago at a coffee shop, and quickly became friends with the Duluth-based folk performer. Malinchoc says she admires Kilgour's elegiac writing and soulful voice. Tomorrow Kilgour comes to Red Wing to perform at Fair Trade Books as she launches her third album, "Rabbit in the Road."
Hair and Nails Gallery co-owner Ryan Fontaine is impressed by Sheila Wagner's new show of abstract paintings at White Page Gallery in south Minneapolis. Fontaine says they are as sculptural as they are painterly, because Wagner uses cardboard and spackle to create colorful energetic images with real depth. On view through June 25.
