Will Steger has led history-making expeditions into the Arctic and Antarctic. In 1989 to 1990 he was the first to travel across Antarctica, a 3,741 mile trip, by dogsled.

Steger spoke with MPR News' chief meteorologist Paul Huttner about how shifts in climate are damaging the ice shelves, floating sheets of ice attached to land, that supported his missions.

"All the ice shelves I've traveled on, both the Arctic and the Antarctic have broken up. They're no longer exist," said Steger.
