Target will be closing 12 stores, including two in Minnesota, on Feb. 3.

The closing Minnesota stores are in Hastings and Fergus Falls. Employees will be offered jobs at other Target locations.

A company spokesperson said the retailer evaluates stores annually and closes or relocates underperforming locations as needed. The company says a store is typically shut down after several years of falling profitability.

Target currently has some 1,830 stores in the United States. The company has opened or plans to open 67 new stores this year and next.
