After 20 years on the Minneapolis City Council, Barb Johnson leaves office in January.

Johnson was the council's president for the past 11 years, representing Ward 4 in north Minneapolis. She lost in the November election to Phillipe Cunningham. Johnson has deep family ties to the area she represents and to the seat she's leaving. Her mother, Alice Rainville, represented the same ward for more than two decades.

Johnson talked about her tenure on the City Council and what she's hoping for in the future with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer.
