A dry Saturday for most of us; scattered showers and storms on Sunday
This is a pretty good way to start September.
Temps will be slightly above average across much of Minnesota today, and most areas will be rain-free.
There will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms in parts of southeastern Minnesota this Saturday morning, but those should taper off by this afternoon.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms could return to far southern Minnesota after midnight Saturday night, and then spread northward.
Southern and central Minnesota will see scattered showers and thunderstorms at times as we go through Sunday and Sunday night. Far northern Minnesota will have a smaller chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Saturday night through Sunday evening:
The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a marginal risk of severe weather for parts of southeastern Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night:
Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.
On Labor Day, the southern half of Minnesota could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon/early evening.
Temperature trends
Saturday afternoon highs are expected to be in the 70s in about the northern half of Minnesota, with some lower 80s in parts of the south.
On Sunday, highs in the 70s will be common, with a few spots in the south touching 80 degrees:

Our average high temp is 77 degrees in the Twin Cities metro area during the first few days of September.
Looking ahead, Twin Cities metro area highs should reach the upper 70s Tuesday, followed by middle 70s Wednesday through Friday.

The August average temperature (average of all the daily highs and lows) was 2.7 degrees warmer than normal in the Twin Cities metro area:
Rainfall at MSP airport was 1.47 inches below normal.
