The influence of outside money on local elections

Millions of dollars are pouring into Minnesota right now.

The state has some of the most competitive Congressional races in the country, and interest groups from all over the nation are jockeying for influence in the final days of the campaign season.

Campaign finance laws require reporting of individual donations. But restrictions are looser for super PACs, making it hard to track down the source of donations.

MPR News host Kerri Miller spoke with Dan Weiner, senior counsel for the Brennan Center's Democracy Program, and Politico reporter Maggie Severns about the role of outside money in local elections.
