New documentary explores why so few kids can read well

Share story

Here's an alarming statistic: More than half of American kids cannot read very well. The problem is largely how reading is taught.

APM Reports Correspondent Emily Hanford has been looking into this and produced a new documentary that's out called "Hard Words."
