Two people were taken to the hospital with significant burn injuries after an explosion and fire in a Minneapolis industrial building on Wednesday.

The department tweeted that the fire was under control and will be investigated.

The incident happened in the Metal-Matic building on the 600 block of 2nd Street southeast.

Metal-Matic produces carbon steel tubing.

Minneapolis Fire assistant chief Bryan Tyner said metal dust accumulation exploded at Metal-Matic, seriously injuring two employees.

A small fire followed, but Tyner said there was no damage to the structure.

The block is near the Mississippi River in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood. Homes, condos and other businesses are nearby, as is Stone Arch Park.
