Minnesota's former state education commissioner is the new superintendent of the Boston public school system.
Brenda Casselius was picked from among three finalists for the job. She served as the state's education commissioner from 2011 through the end of the administration of DFL Gov. Mark Dayton.
She's a former social studies teacher, diversity coordinator and assistant superintendent in the Memphis, Tenn., public schools. Boston has 55,000 students, and the district is in negotiations with Cassellius for her pay and starting date.
