60 years since the Fleetwoods topped the Billboard chart with 'Come Softly to Me'

It's been 60 years since the Fleetwoods were No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart with their song "Come Softly to Me."

The band wrote the song as high school students in Olympia, Washington. At the time, they called themselves Two Girls and a Guy, and sang the tune at a senior class assembly and dance. When the group connected with a fledgling record label, its owner suggested they change their name to the Fleetwoods because their phone numbers all started with the Fleetwood prefix.
