Some OK weather for Mother’s Day; a warming trend this week

I'm always glad to see the weekend forecast improve. A few days ago, it looked like off and on showers would be a good bet for parts of Minnesota on Mother's Day.

The newest computer model info shows only an isolated shower chance on Sunday across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Southwestern Minnesota could see scattered showers at times on Sunday.

As always, updated weather information can be heard on the Minnesota Public Radio Network, and you’ll also see updated weather info on the MPR News live weather blog.

Temperature trends

Our average high temp is 68 degrees this time of year in the Twin Cities metro area. We won't be quite that warm on Sunday, but we will share highs in the 60s with much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 60s Monday, followed by lower 70s Tuesday and Wednesday and middle 70s on Thursday and Friday.

Do you like mild temps? The Climate Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a tendency for warmer than normal temps in southern Minnesota during the May 17 through May 21 time frame:

We'll see if that pans out.

Tuesday showers?

Monday is looking dry, but some of us will see some off and on showers Tuesday and Tuesday night. There will also be a chance of thunderstorms.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern Tuesday and Tuesday night:

Some forecast models are showing another shower chance late on Thursday.

What a difference one year makes

Twin Cities metro area temperatures have been cooler than normal on nine of the first eleven days this month. Last May, metro area temps were warmer than normal on nine of the first eleven days. The metro area ended up with warmer than normal temps on 27 of the 31 days in May last year.
