Rain and thunder at times on Sunday

Cool start to the week

We enjoyed nice summer weather all across Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Saturday. Our Saturday evening weather was nice too. Here was the early evening view in Duluth:

Our Sunday won’t be nearly as nice as Saturday.

Rain and thunder

Our Sunday will feature periods of rain with some embedded thunderstorms across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from Sunday morning through Sunday night:

Some areas could see heavy rain. There’s also the potential for a severe thunderstorm. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk of severe weather Sunday and Sunday night in much of central and southern Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin:

A marginal risk indicates that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible. The SPC will update the Sunday severe weather outlook later Saturday night and several times on Sunday.

As always, updated weather information can be heard on the Minnesota Public Radio Network, and you’ll also see updated weather info on the MPR News live weather blog.

Temperature trends

Sunday highs will be mainly in the upper 70s to lower 80s:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 70s Monday and Tuesday, followed by lower 80s Wednesday and Thursday, then mid 80s on Friday.

Highs of 90+

The official high temperature has only reached 90 degrees or higher 4 times this year at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. By this time last year, MSP airport had tallied 13 days with highs of 90 or higher.
