Lovely Thursday and Friday; storms likely Saturday

Let’s give a big “Thank you!” to the cold front that flushed much of the recent muggy heat out of Minnesota. Dry high pressure centered over Saskatchewan will treat us to a delightful northwest flow for Thursday.

The stage is now set for two lovely days to wrap up the work week before thunderstorms return for Saturday. Here is a look at the next five days for the Twin Cities area:

A near-perfect Thursday

Thursday will bring border-to-border sunshine and comfortable high temperatures in the 70s. Dew points have dropped into the 40s and 50s, which is just about as low and non-muggy as they get around here in summer.

The Twin Cities should warm into the upper 70s in the afternoon, a bit cooler than the average high of 82 for this date. Dry winds will be about 10 to 15 mph from the northwest.

More delightful weather for Friday

Canadian high pressure will hang around for Friday. Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than on Thursday with the Twin Cities reaching the low 80s. Humidities will remain low. Expect some increasing clouds.

Saturday storms

A ripple in the atmosphere will arrive on Saturday as our protective high pressure slides off to the east. Scattered thunderstorms are likely. Some storms could be strong.

Sunday’s looking good

Sunday should be the better day of the weekend for most of us. Look for dry skies and seasonable temperatures.

Next week looks rather rainy at times

Storms on Monday are likely to be rather widespread and might become strong.

Later in the week we probably can expect periods of showers and thunderstorms, especially across areas of the southern half of the state that remain unusually wet.
