Pleasant Thursday before storms later; muggier days coming

While the Twin Cities enjoyed a lovely Thursday with a high temperature of 78 degrees, the national hot spot was Death Valley, Calif., with a searing high of 120. Note that it was an actual temperature, not one of those “feels like” numbers. Death Valley National Park is a unique and wonderful place, but my recommendation would be for a winter visit unless you enjoy thermal distress.

Pleasant Thursday until late

Thursday is starting off with a mix of clouds and sun. Temperatures and dew points will be pleasant all day. Look for high temperatures from the low 70s around Ely and the Boundary Waters to lots of mid and upper 70s. The Twin Cities might just touch 80 with a light south wind.

Showers and thunderstorms will build from North Dakota into northwestern Minnesota Thursday morning. Change will begin for the rest of us later in the day. Showers and thunderstorms will spread across northern Minnesota today and into the western part of the state in the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms should track toward eastern Minnesota by late afternoon.

Dry Friday

Friday looks like another winner. Early-day showers and storms should exit eastbound across Wisconsin in the morning. Sunshine will break out and bring us seasonable temperatures with highs mainly from the mid 70s to low 80s.

The Twin Cities’ dew point is likely to nudge upward a bit into the low 60s.

Weekend storms

The weekend seems likely to bring a period of storms beginning late on Saturday and continuing Saturday night. Showers and thunderstorms might hang on into Sunday morning for parts of eastern Minnesota before clearing out.

Hotter and muggy to begin next week

Yep, several very summery days will be coming our way to begin next week. And check out those forecast temperatures from Kansas to Texas and the Desert Southwest.
