Beautiful summery weather followed by thunderstorms Saturday night

We’ll enjoy some great summer weather across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin this Saturday. Some showers and thunderstorms are possible in northwestern and north-central Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms spread across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin as we go through the evening and overnight hours, with some severe thunderstorms possible.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning:

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows an enhanced risk of severe weather Saturday and Saturday night for a few counties in southwestern Minnesota, with a slight risk of severe weather from west-central Minnesota through southeastern Minnesota. Here’s a look at the risk areas and the timing of the severe risk, from the Twin Cities NWS office:

Temperature trends

Saturday highs will reach the lower 80s across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with a few 70s in northwestern Minnesota and in a few spots up along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

Twin Cities highs are projected to reach the lower 80s Tuesday, followed by upper 70s Wednesday and Thursday and around 80 on Friday.
