Emmanuel Aranda, the man who admitted throwing a child off a balcony at the Mall of America last April, is appealing his conviction.
The filing doesn't say why Aranda is appealing his case, or on what grounds.
In May, he pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, and was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Aranda's mother has said in the past that he has experienced mental illness. But that did not come up in his case.
Aranda is incarcerated at the prison in Oak Park Heights, Minn.
The notice of appeal was filed last Friday.
The Hennepin County public defender's office, which is representing Aranda, declined to comment on the filing.
