Rain and snow potential
Rain moves into far western Minnesota late Saturday afternoon, and expands eastward Saturday evening. Rain could arrive in the Twin Cities metro area after 10 p.m. or so, but check forecast updates later this afternoon. The rain changes to a rain/snow in the metro area later in the overnight hours. The rain mixes with snow Saturday evening up north, then changes to all snow overnight in northeastern Minnesota and western WI. There could be a bit of freezing drizzle at times too. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning:
It’ll probably rain and snow in some areas that look dry in the NAM loop. Listen for updated weather information on the MPR network, and you’ll also see updated weather info on the MPR News live weather blog.
Light snow showers are still possible early Sunday in northeastern and southeastern Minnesota, plus western Wisconsin. Northeastern Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin could see some one inch snow amounts overnight into early Sunday:
Note the potential for up to two inches in parts of the northeast.
