Almost mild on Sunday and Monday; update on the Tuesday PM snow chances

Late Friday and Saturday snow potential

It was a sunny Saturday! Sunshine is especially pleasant in November, which is typically the cloudiest month of the year in the Twin Cities.

Our Saturday high of 45 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 8 degrees warmer than our average Nov. 23 Twin Cities high temp. At midday Saturday, there were a lot of people out walking and jogging around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. I think that you’ll like our Sunday temps too.

Temperature trends

Highs in the 30s are forecast Sunday afternoon in far northern Minnesota, with 40s across the rest of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We’ll probably reach the lower 40s in the Twin Cites.

Monday highs reach the 40s south, with 30s north:

Tuesday highs will be mainly in the 30s:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid to upper 30s on Tuesday, followed by mid 30s on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday.

Rain and snow chances

There could be some scattered sprinkles/flurries in far northern Minnesota on Sunday, with a chance of scattered rain/snow showers in far northern Minnesota Sunday evening.

One forecast model shows scattered light rain showers Sunday in west-central Minnesota, and some of those could spread into east-central Minnesota in the afternoon. I’d say that the Twin Cities metro area could see a passing sprinkle Sunday afternoon or early Sunday evening.

Tuesday PM snow potential

The path of the Tuesday/early Wednesday low pressure system has shifted slightly northward on recent forecast model runs.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Global Forecast System (GFS) model shows this potential precipitation pattern Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday:

This low pressure system could bring some snow to the Twin Cities metro area late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night, with heavier snow amounts in parts of southern Minnesota and into Wisconsin. It’ll be interesting to see how the forecast track shifts over the next couple of days.

Here’s the Twin Cities NWS Saturday update on the Tuesday PM/early Wednesday snow potential:

Stay tuned.

By the way, one forecast model shows accumulating snow in Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin late Friday and into next Saturday. We’ll have a better idea on that snow potential in a few days.

Cool start to December?

The eight-to-fourteen day (Dec.1 through Dec. 7) temperature outlook from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center shows a strong probability of cooler than normal temps for Minnesota and much of Wisconsin:

We’ll see how that pans out.
