Blizzard warnings in Northwest Minnesota, winter weather advisories across the state

We’ve seen a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain in parts of southern and central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area, this morning. The precipitation will spread northward and eastward through this morning and afternoon. 

Here was the icy road situation shortly after 6 a.m. this Saturday:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from Saturday morning through Sunday evening:

Heaviest snow amounts will be to the west this weekend:

Northeastern Minnesota will also see several inches of snow this weekend, along with a wintry mix:

Another batch of snow is on tap for Monday:

The Twin Cities metro area will see the morning/early afternoon mix including freezing rain then mostly rain later this afternoon into Sunday with a mix returning Sunday night and perioids of snow on Monday.

A winter weather advisory continues until 3 p.m. this Saturday in the Twin Cities metro area, due to the sleet and freezing rain included in our wintry mix.
