Tuesday’s forecast brings cooler air, dry skies and the return of sunshine.

Tuesday will be a very quiet day across Minnesota, giving us a good chance to start digging out from the messy storm that has impacted the state since Saturday.

In addition to heavy snow some parts of northern and western Minnesota saw during the weekend — over a foot for some places — the Twin Cities picked up about 2 to 5 inches Monday, leaving some roads still snow-covered and slow for the Tuesday morning commute. 

Tuesday morning is mostly cloudy, but clouds are clearing and the state will be under partly to mostly sunny skies by afternoon. 

It is still a bit windy Tuesday morning, but winds are also diminishing and will be lighter by the afternoon.

Temperatures will not be as mild as they have been, but it’s a return to closer to average temperatures for this time of year. Highs will range in the teens and 20s.

If you’re headed out for New Year’s Eve, it will be dry and seasonable. Temperatures as the new year rings in will be in the single digits in northern Minnesota and teens for southern Minnesota. 

For the Twin Cities, temperatures at midnight will be near 15 degrees.

The rest of the week is also relatively quiet. There will be an updated Updraft with your extended forecast around 9 a.m.
