Frigid temperatures this weekend prompt cold weather advisories

Monday brings relatively quiet weather with above average temperatures, mostly sunny skies and much less wind than Sunday. But, the state could see light snow before the day is over.

Monday morning temperatures are ranging mostly in the teens and low 20s, with just a few single digits in very northern Minnesota. Under plentiful sunshine, those temperatures will rebound at least 10 degrees above average by Monday afternoon, for highs ranging from the upper 20s to mid-30s. 

The one portion of the state that sees a few more clouds during the day is southern Minnesota, due to a disturbance passing south of the state.

Winds have died down significantly since Sunday, when wind gusts topped 50 mph at times.  However, they could become breezier again by late Monday, especially for northwest Minnesota, as a cold front approaches.

Ahead of a cold front that moves across Minnesota Tuesday, not only will winds pick up, but clouds increase in the late evening hours, and a slight chance for snow returns. For most of the state, including the Twin Cities, the snow would be nothing more than a few flakes passing by late Monday. 

Northern Minnesota may see a light dusting of snow that lingers through mid-Tuesday.
