Strong southerly winds drive warmer air across Minnesota Tuesday

Milder temperatures will be offset by the wind chill

Temperatures will be milder Tuesday, especially for western Minnesota, but it won’t feel much warmer thanks to higher winds making for a colder wind chill.

Tuesday’s weather

Tuesday is starting off mostly with single-digit temperatures and fewer locations that are below zero. Especially for western Minnesota, it is a much milder start than the past couple mornings.

Most of the state will see highs in the 20s for Tuesday.

However, for many locations, particularly in southern Minnesota, highs could be set at the end of the day as temperatures climb through the evening and overnight, setting the stage for a warm Wednesday. Here is that temperature trend through the overnight for the Twin Cities, with temperatures in red and wind chill in blue:

Tuesday’s milder weather will be offset by stronger winds creating more of a wind chill, so it will still feel cooler with wind chills making much of the state feel like zero to 10 degrees in the afternoon.

Winds Tuesday are from the south, which is helping to draw in the warmer air. Most of the state will be windy by Tuesday afternoon, with winds gusting over 30 mph, especially for western Minnesota.

A few more clouds are spreading across northern Minnesota already Tuesday morning and will continue to spread across the state through the day, changing skies from mostly sunny to mostly cloudy.
