Mild weather Wednesday, with spreading chances for snow and ice
A slow morning commute in southeastern Minnesota
Temperatures have risen significantly as of Wednesday morning, but the same system that ushered in the milder air is now bringing snow, drizzle and even freezing rain.
Wednesday’s temperatures
Wednesday is off to a much milder start than the past few mornings, with temperatures ranging from teens in northern Minnesota to a few 30s in southern parts of the state.
The winds have also diminished since Tuesday, so wind chill is less of a factor. By Wednesday afternoon, the entire state will be about 10 degrees above average. Except for a few locations in northern Minnesota, most of the highs will be in the 30s.
Wednesday’s Precipitation
Southeastern Minnesota is already seeing snow, drizzle and freezing rain. Here is the radar as of 7:01 a.m.:

The precipitation will stay confined to southeastern Minnesota Wednesday, before slowly spreading north overnight and into Thursday.
Even though it is predominantly light precipitation, there is a winter weather advisory until noon, especially given the potential for some ice.
A few places could see snow totals of up to 3 or 4 inches, but it will be a wet snow that likely compacts down to less.
As mentioned, more widespread precipitation is possible across Minnesota on Thursday. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
