Fog and light snow slow morning commute
Freezing drizzle a concern for northern Minnesota
Minnesota is seeing areas of dense fog and light snow to start off Thursday, along with continued mild temperatures.
Fog
The warmer air we’ve seen spread across the colder ground, combined with light winds, are causing areas of dense fog Thursday morning, especially for central and southern Minnesota. Areas highlighted in gray show where fog could reduce visibilities to a half or quarter mile, and most of the highlighted areas are under a dense fog advisory.
Fog will slowly lift through the morning, and temperatures remain mild, with all but northern Minnesota likely to be in the 30s.
Snow and freezing drizzle
There is a weather system passing well south of Minnesota, putting us on the northern fringe of light precipitation. Because of that, all but northern Minnesota could see some very light periods of snow Thursday, mostly an inch or less.
With the transitioning temperatures and milder air replacing the recent cold, there is a slight change for freezing rain to mix in, especially on the northern edge of the moisture. Given the light snow and possible freezing drizzle Thursday morning, areas around Duluth are under a winter weather advisory until noon.
The snow starts clearing out Friday, and the weekend remains very mild. The extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
