When will the arctic chill return?

The official high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 30 degrees Sunday afternoon. That was well above our average Jan. 26 high of 24 degrees. It was also our fifth consecutive day with a high temp of 30 or warmer in the metro area.

Monday highs reach the 20s across most of northern and western Minnesota, with some lower 30s in the Twin Cities metro area, southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 20s Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by lower 30s Thursday and Friday.

Wintry mix to the west

Portions of western Minnesota will see periods of freezing drizzle and light snow Sunday evening and overnight Sunday night. Some spots in western Minnesota may also see a bit of light freezing rain and sleet.

The model won’t depict all drizzle/freezing drizzle areas, but it shows the areas with the best precipitation chances Sunday evening and overnight Sunday night. A few scattered flurries are possible in northern Minnesota on Monday, and occasional patchy flurries or freezing drizzle will be possible in the south.

A dense fog advisory is in effect Sunday evening through 9 a.m. Monday for Martin, Faribault and Freeborn county of south-central Minnesota. Some cities included in the dense fog advisory are Fairmont, Blue Earth, and Albert Lea.
