Sections of northeastern Minnesota will see 1 to 2 inches of additional snow today and this evening, with 2 to 4 inches possible along the North Shore of Lake Superior. A winter weather advisory continues through this evening for southern Cook county. There were reports of some snow-covered roads Sunday morning from Hinckley northward into northeastern Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has updated road conditions.

Northwestern and central Minnesota will have a chance of scattered snow showers and rain showers today. A few spotty flurries and sprinkles are possible in southern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin.

March snow

Just a trace of snow was recorded at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Saturday evening. Our official Twin Cities snow total remains at three-tenth of an inch this month and no big snow storms are in sight.

This is quite a change from last March, when MSP Airport tallied 10.5 inches of snow. Here are Twin Cities monthly snow totals and snow-season totals going back to 2008-2009:

Notice that MSP airport tallied zero snow in March of 2010. In case you’re wondering, the snowiest March in Twin Cities weather records was March of 1951, with 40 inches!
