Milder temps Monday and Tuesday; no really cold weather in sight

Shower chances on Tuesday

Our Sunday high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 43 degrees. Our average Twin Cities high temp is 44 this time of year, so it was a fairly typical March afternoon. Our Monday afternoon high temp is expected to be a few degrees warmer than Sunday’s high.

Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will see Monday highs in the 40s:

Far northwestern Minnesota may top out in the 30s.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid 50s Tuesday, followed by around 50 on Wednesday, then mid 40s Thursday and upper 40s on Friday.

The last week of March

Next weekend and the final few days of March may be milder than normal. The NWS Climate Prediction Center temperature outlook for March 28 through April 1 shows a slight tendency for above-normal temperatures across much of Minnesota:

The nearest area with a tendency toward below-normal temperatures is in the far western part of the United States. We’ll see how it all pans out.

Tuesday shower chances

I’ll begin by mentioning that snow will continue in much of northeastern Minnesota Sunday evening. Northeastern Minnesota may also see some areas of freezing drizzle. Some spots in northeastern Minnesota reported 2 to 4 inches of snow on Sunday. You can get updated snow totals as they are posted by the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory continues until 4 a.m. Monday for southern portions of Cook county.

Scattered light rain showers/snow showers are possible in central and southern Minnesota Sunday evening and overnight Sunday night. You can hear updated weather information on the MPR network, and you’ll see updated weather info on the MPR News live weather blog.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see scattered showers at times, with a mix of rain and snow possible in parts of far northern Minnesota.
