Freeze warnings overnight as cold weather continues

Rain returns midweek

Colder air will stay in place across the state for the first half of the week, including more freeze concerns for southern Minnesota.  Then chances for showers and milder weather return midweek.

Cold mornings ahead before temperatures warm

With cold air settled across Minnesota and clearing skies overnight, temperatures will drop into the 20s and low 30s by Monday morning.

This is cold enough to produce frost even in southern parts of the state, which has led to a freeze warning from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Monday.

Similar conditions Monday night could lead to another freeze warning Tuesday morning as well.  The clearing skies Sunday night will lead to widespread sunshine Monday and Tuesday, but even with the sun, highs will stay about 10 to 20 degrees below average.  Monday’s highs will be in the 40s and 50s, and most of the state makes it into the 50s both Tuesday and Wednesday.

By Thursday and through the end of the week, a warmer air flow into the state brings back more seasonable May temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Precipitation stays limited

The drier than average weather Minnesota has experienced recently continues in the week ahead.  The next rain chance comes with a weather system that impacts the state Wednesday into Thursday.  Showers and possibly a few storms are possible, along with cloudier skies, especially Wednesday.

Rain totals likely remain low, with most of the state expected to see well under a half inch of rain between both days.

Spotty showers and isolated storms are possible again over the weekend, but that too looks like it will remain light.
